Mr. Elmer "Eddie" Johnson

Elmer Edward "Eddie" Johnson, 82, of Sykesville, died Friday, November 1, 2024, suddenly at home. Born July 24, 1942 in Big Stone Gap, he was the son of the late Alfred Taft Johnson and Polly Ann Thompson of Big Stone Gap, VA. He was the husband of Loretta Ann Johnson of Sykesville, MD for 57 years. He attended East Stone Elementary and Powell Valley High School where he went to the 10th grade and quit to join the Army. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in July of 1966. After the war, he met his wife of 57 years when she was 15 and they never left each other's side. He worked at 3 different quarries in Marriottsville, MD and retired early at 62 from Lafarge Quarry in Marriottsville. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Alfred and Polly Johnson; mother-in-law and father-in-law Matt and Rena Johnson and Rena's second husband Harmie Hurd. Also, his 2 brothers-in-law Loran and Lynn Johnson and daughter Kristy Nicole Johnson and nephew Stephen L. Green, also 3 nieces and 2 nephews. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Ann Johnson of Sykesville along with their 2 grandsons they raised, Dakotah A. Johnson and Wyatt B. Parker of Sykesville. His son Elmer E. Johnson, 2nd and wife Stephanie Johnson of Rogersville, TN and grandchildren Joshua M. Johnson, Justin D. Johnson and families of MD and Phoenix E. Johnson and 10 step-grandchildren of TN; ex-daughter-in-law Lisa Parham of MD. Eddie's sisters Nellie "Ruth" Hensley, Wilma "Jean" Gardener; brother Harmie W. Johnson and wife Lisa Wells Johnson; niece Patty Johnson Auston and husband Billy Auston and family; brother Alfred Odell Johnson and nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Eddie's wife's family: sister-in-law Lucille Green and husband Ron Green, niece Lisa "Liza Jane" Gregory, nephew James E. Green and family, Stephen's wife Candice "Candy" Green, sisters-in-law Joyce Johnson and Hope Johnson and many, many nieces and nephews and many other great-grandnieces and grandnephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, 1 PM - 2 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Elder Rev.
