Ellie L. Duke

Eleanor L. "Ellie" Duke, 28, of Lebanon, OH, formerly of Sykesville, MD passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 30, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1996, in Volusia County, FL, to the late Benedict Drury Duke III and the late Margaret Elizabeth "Beth” Duke. Ellie was raised in Sykesville, MD, where she spent much of her childhood on her grandparent’s farm, developing a deep love for country life. She found joy in riding her grandfather’s green Oliver tractors, caring for animals, and embracing the hard work that came with farm living. She built a career with a roofing and siding company, where she conducted inspections and emergency tarping, always meeting challenges with determination and resilience. Her work ethic was matched only by her generosity-Ellie was known for giving freely to her friends and for embracing life’s adventures with spontaneity and enthusiasm. Among her many passions, she enjoyed trap shooting, riding motorcycles, boating, and fishing. Her adventurous spirit led her to pursue her pilot’s license, and she became a skilled aviator, confidently flying a Piper Archer plane. Above all else, Ellie’s greatest love was her son, Coy. She worked tirelessly to provide for him, ensuring he always felt cherished and supported. Her kindness, humor, and radiant spirit brightened the lives of everyone she met. Ellie’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She is survived by sisters Betina Watson and spouse Mark, Amy Johnson and spouse Neal, Jemiah "Mia" Duke, and Hannah Duke and companion Mike Williams; uncles William "Billy" Schneider and spouse Maricela, Andrew Schneider and wife Ramona and John Schneider; and aunt Christina Spriggs and spouse Scott McGregor. She was predeceased by her grandparents, William Schneider, and his spouse, Margaret. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD where a memorial service will follow at 10:30 AM. Inurnment to follow at 11:45 AM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
