Elizabeth L. Mullinix

Elizabeth L. "Betty" Mullinix, 94, of Dayton, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, peacefully at home. She was born on February 7, 1929, in Washington, DC to the late King Walton Carter and Bertha Long Carter. She was predeceased by husbands J. David Mullinix and Vernon Axt, son John Edwin Mullinix and brother King "Bud" Carter. Betty worked for the Library of Congress in Washington, DC from 1947 to 1951. After marrying David on May 26, 1950, she became a full-time mom raising her 5 children along with helping on the farm. She and David continued to run the family business that was established in 1942 to help make it grow and prosper. They spent many years enjoying their place in Ocean City "A Little Bit Of Heaven" with family and friends boating, golfing and eating lobsters. Betty loved to golf which eventually encouraged her to buy a house in Florida so she could enjoy the winters and golf. If you visited her there it was guaranteed a trip to Disney which was her absolute favorite place in the world. She loved to entertain and cook and one year she baked 192 pounds of fruitcake for family and friends for Christmas. Knitting was a favorite thing to do in the evening knitting beautiful hats that she made for people in need. She loved her garden, birds, puzzles, reading and her manhattans. The most important thing to her was her family and friends and loved spending time with them. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Lee Schwarz (Shep), and sons Stephen Louis Mullinix (Donna), Michael David Mullinix (Nance) and Mark Allen Mullinix (Bernadette) and stepchildren Kimberly Gluskin and Bruce Axt. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren Scott Schwarz (Tammie), Beth Winters (Chris), Laura Kilpatrick (Scott), Kate Rolfe (Nate), Stephanie Mullinix (Phil), Nikki Tegtmeyer (Ryan), Matt Mullinix (Denise), Tim Mullinix (Rachel), Chris Mullinix (Brittany), Mike Mullinix (Amanda), Carter Mullinix and Spencer Mullinix. She is also survived by her 22 great grandchildren Autumn, Caila, Madison, Scott, Caroline, Samantha, Lex, Kaitlyn, Kylie, Victoria, Alexander, Lewis, Sammie, Dani, Nate, Wyatt, Everett, Sloane, Nora, Vivienne, Enzo and Finn and her 2 great great grandchildren Jaxon and Penelope. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Glenelg United Methodist Church, 13900 Burntwoods Road, Glenelg, MD. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Glenelg United Methodist Church immediately followed by a reception at the church. Interment will follow the reception at Mt. View Cemetery, Marriottsville.
