Mrs. Edwina "Dwinnie" Harrison

Edwina Larue (Dwinnie) Harrison, 75 of Union Bridge passed away after a brief illness on August 22, 2015. She was born January 17, 1940 in Damascus, MD. She was the loving wife of 55 years to the late Francis E (Johnnie) Harrison. She was the daughter of the late Edwin L and Eileen L Cline Linthicum of Mt. Airy. Dwinnie grew up in Mt. Airy and graduated from Frederick High School, Class of ‘58. Soon after her marriage to her husband Johnnie Harrison, he started his own masonry business and she kept the books while maintaining the home and raising their 6 children. As the business grew and transformed into a subcontractor for Verizon, she maintained the office and kept the wheels turning behind the scenes. She was the stable force in the family business. Whenever Johnnie would want to invest and expand, she was the one to limit what they could afford. She managed an office of up to 3 assistants covering 50 employees on the payroll. She was a natural, with no formal accounting training. She was a loving wife to her husband, Johnnie, and supported him throughout his endeavors and shenanigans. She managed a household on the farm with 6 adventurous children. Never a dull moment with: wanderers, motorheads, acrobats and animal orphanage. In later years, as the business became more profitable, they started traveling this great country of ours. They were proud that they managed to experience all 50 states, most of them in their motorhome. They would set out with a direction and a couple of planned stops, but mostly meander around the country and stop where they saw something interesting. They made lifelong friends wherever they stopped. This family has lost a wonderful matriarch. Surviving are siblings Eugenia “Jeanie” Mullinix, Anita Sue Kent and husband Steve. Sister in-law: Loretta Widerman, Children: F. Edward Harrison, Jr., Christie Harrison and friend Fred Kiger, Gregory Harrison and wife Kelly, James Harrison, Joseph Harrison and wife Dana. “Step” son in-law Eddie Gunneaux “Adopted” children: Mike Ferguson and Sandy, Tom Seal and Eileen, Norman “Peanut” Pyles and Nancy. Grandchildren: Ryan, Sarah, Fran Harrison, Lynda Harrison, Dominic Picarella, Bailee Kiger, Tyler Harrison, Diana McCutcheon, Crystal Harrison, Kelsie, Jacob, and Kaileigh Harrison, Amber and Jonathan Baxley. She also had 8 great grandchildren. Other than her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son and daughter in-law: John Franklin (Frankie) Harrison and Dolly Harrison Gunneaux, and brother in-law, Harold Mullinix. The family will receive friends at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville, MD from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wed., August 26 and 10-12 on Thurs., August 27 with a service to follow at noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the John Franklin Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund, Community Foundation of Fred. Co., 312 E. Church St., Frederick, MD.
