Mr. Daniel Risdon Twilley

Daniel Risdon Twilley, Sykesville, MD - Age 69 4/3/1953 - 12/24/2022 Born in Baltimore Maryland on April 3, 1953 to John Emanuel Twilley and June Moog Twilley. He is survived by Michele Twilley, his wife. He is preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt Francis “Dee” Moog Venema and his cousin and best friend Charles Venema. Dan started his career as an insulator in Salisbury, MD before moving to Florida and working for the George L. Simons Company. He was project manager for the insulation of the large geodesic dome housing Spaceship Earth at Disney’s EPCOT Center. Returning to Maryland, and as the hazards associated with asbestos insulation were becoming regulated, he became an industrial hygienist and conducted asbestos worker training with Aerosol Monitoring and Analysis. After a year in Los Angeles, he returned to Maryland and became a Manager for the Environmental Engineering Division at General Physics Corporation. He managed the US Postal Service environmental contract and was able to travel to the Republic of Panama to work on the US Army transfer of the Panama Canal to the Panamanian Government. This allowed Dan to become the third generation of his family to work on the Panama Canal. Dan retired from environmental health and safety consulting after 18 years as Vice President and co-owner of Aria Environmental. Dan enjoyed his impressive collection of music, especially the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. He and his cousin went to every Rolling Stones show they could in Washington DC or Chicago. Dan was an avid photographer. He loved to watch movies about WWII and NASA. He loved to read and generally was reading 3-4 books at a time. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan from the time his Navy football hero, Roger Staubach became a Cowboy. In recent years, he had enjoyed following the Laurel Delaware Historical Society restoration of the Hitchens Homestead. The 1878 cottage was constructed by his great-grandfather Emanuel Twilley owner of the largest grist mill in Delaware at the time. The building is one of a few remaining examples of the rural gothic revival style. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 2 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
