Cecelia Leith

Cecelia (Cece) Leith died on 9/29/23 peacefully at the age of 92 years old. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim Leith, her children Don Leith, and Leslie Leith. Cece was a mother to Linda, Don, Bill, Laurie, Lesley, Russ and Larry. She was grandmother to Jean, John, Vanessa, Eric, James, Maria, Tayler, Douglas, Lisa, Jeffrey, Emily, Wyatt, Elizabeth and Matthew. She was a Great-Grandmother to Penny, Lilly, Harper, Sawyer, Aubrey, Kaia, and Emma. Cece was born in 1931 as Cecelia Nelson Shultz in Baltimore City MD. She was born to Jean Baird Shultz and John Elmer Shultz with siblings to include Jack, Jean and Phillip. She attended Forrest Park High School and Baltimore Junior College. Growing up she was a very athletic child, playing varsity basketball, field hockey and volleyball. for her high school. She was loved by many, and named the Baltimore Junior College May Queen where she was described as “ All around athletic – quiet, easy going.” Cece went on to work as a Physical Education teacher at Catonsville Senior High School and coached both varsity basketball and field hockey, while raising her first three children: Linda, Don and Bill. Through her children, she came to meet Jim Leith. Jim and Cece quickly fell in love, and went on to marry in 1967. With their marriage, Cece’s family grew two-fold as she gained three additional children whom she loved dearly - Leslie, Larry and Russ. Jim and Cece later welcomed their daughter Laurie into the world together. Cece and Jim moved their family from Baltimore to Howard County Maryland in 1967. In their free time, they enjoyed traveling, watching University of Maryland athletics, bowling, theatre, playing cards, dinning out and were frequently at school events and on the sidelines of their children and grandchildren’s athletic events. Cece remained very active and involved in her later years teaching water aerobics and meeting up with friends to play Bocce Ball.
