Mrs. Bonnie Vera Davis

On the afternoon of April 3, 2024, Bonnie Vera Davis lost her valiant battle with metastatic breast cancer. Bonnie was 72 years young. It isn’t easy trying to encompass such a beautiful person in a few paragraphs. And frankly, this is one of the hardest things to write. So, here is the best way we know how. Over the last few days, Bonnie’s children have been inundated with texts, emails, phone calls, and social media messages from folks telling them how heartbroken they were upon hearing the news that Bonnie had passed away. Mom was a friend, a confidant, a fun co-worker, a sweet cousin, a special Aunt, a loving sister, and second mom, to so many. It has warmed our hearts to know that Mom was loved by so many. Bonnie was all the things mentioned above. The most common reflection related to us about Mom’s life was that her family was her truest love. Her devotion and love for Rocky was unparalleled. She loved her children fiercely and unconditionally. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye and her heart….and was most notably called Grandmom Bunny. Here are some things you may not know about Bonnie: On January 9th, 1952, Bonnie was born prematurely to her parents Anita and Harry Gilbert. A few years later, her family welcomed a brother, Robert, whom she loved and respected dearly. Her mother, Anita, and brother, Bob, became a very close unit after the death of her father Harry. Bonnie always commented on how strong her mother was as a single Mom. And she appreciated Bob’s dedication to caring for Anita while Bonnie was raising her family. As a girl, Bonnie loved to sing, talk (yes, her teacher said she talked too much and yes, it is a trait she shared with her children!), and play the piano. A native of Baltimore, MD, Bonnie met the love of her life, Rocky Davis, at Baltimore City Community College. They both shared a love for music which kept them bonded to each other and their families for years to come. Bonnie and Rocky married in 1971. Bonnie and Rocky welcomed 4 children: Krissie, Jennifer Sean, and Kelly. Bonnie was known to be an avid music lover. Bonnie enjoyed a broad range of music genres She loved music from the 50’s and 60’s in particular. Once she met Rocky, she grew to love the music that Rocky and his family played in the band, The Spalpeens. Bonnie and friends followed The Spalpeens around Baltimore. Bonnie loved Irish music so much she was invited to play the piano for the Irishmen’s Chorale - Amhránái Na Gaeilge. Her favorite song to play with her guys was Our Lady of Knock. Bonnie spent 30 years playing with her guys. Another very important facet to Bonnie’s musical career was being a pianist or organist for many churches around the Baltimore area including: St. Joseph’s Monastery, Bethany United Church of Christ, and her home church St. Benjamin’s Lutheran Church. After being a stay at home mom, Bonnie had various jobs. Her favorite was working at Mt. St. Joseph High School as the history department secretary. During her professional life, Bonnie worked for many doctors offices in the Baltimore area. She loved her patients, her co-workers and the doctors. Bon developed lasting friendships with the many people she befriended over the years. While she started out as a secretary, her favorite job was a surgical scheduler. Mom was a voracious reader. She loved to throw a party and there was usually Cool Whip used in at least 2 or 3 desserts. She loved crafting, people watching, watching Hallmark movies, American Idol and The Voice. Musicals - both playing the piano for them and watching them. Most of all, she loved spending time with Rocky, Krissie, Jennifer, Sean, Kelly, and her grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by the love of her life, William “Rocky” Davis. She dearly loved her family - daughter Krissie Ivins and her husband Jeffrey, daughter Jennifer Bennett and husband Jim, son Sean Davis and his wife Ashley, and Kelly Morton and her husband Ryan. Bonnie is survived her Brother Robert Gilbert and his wife Melina. She is also survived by her brother in laws Michael Davis and his wife Mary, Gregory Davis and his wife Karen, and brother in law Mike Fadrowski. Bonnie had nine grandchildren that she loved with all of her heart and who made her proud every day: Liam Ivins, Kyle Ivins, Matthew Bennett, Nicholas Bennett, Andrew Bennett, Shane Morton, Kaelyn Morton, Isabella Davis, and Charlotte Davis. Bonnie is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved a great deal. As we conclude, we each wanted to share a memory or something about Mom that we loved: Krissie - I loved Mom's ability to always be kind and giving to everyone! Jennifer - I will always remember mom singing at night when she thought we were sleeping, teaching me how to connect the dots when I was sick, her devotion to Dad, and putting her kids first - always. Mom was so sassy and I love her for it! Sean - One memory that always stood out that ties into the love of family was during the fire. She kept running back inside the smoke filled house, risking her life, just to grab our jackets and shoes. That's a very vivid memory for me. I remember yelling at mom to not go in....she just kept running back in bringing out clothes. Kelly - I loved mom's sense of humor and her ability to make everyone feel important and always welcomed. However, we all agree that Mom loved all of us fiercely. Grandmom Arlene once said about Mom, “To know her is to love her.” Indeed. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 AM.
