Betty Lee McElroy

Betty Lee McElroy, 83, of Finksburg, MD, entered the presence of her Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Dove House Hospice Center in Westminster, MD. She was born on June 30, 1940, in Howard County, Md, to the late Junie G. and Charlotte V. Miller. Betty grew up in Woodbine, MD, graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1958 and in 1960, she married William McElroy, her husband of 63 years. Her first job was with Montgomery Ward, and she retired from Howard County Government. She was known by many as their Avon Representative for over 50 years. Betty was full of life with an infectious smile, loved to read and welcomed everyone into her family. Christmas gatherings, family reunions and lunches with friends and siblings were a highlight every year for her. She loved spending time with her family, (especially her grandchildren), and going to Delaware, North Carolina and Georgia to see family and friends. She was a member of Winfield Bible Chapel and took great pleasure in working with her church in different ministries and crocheting afghans for newborns and charities. Surviving in addition to her husband is son and daughter-in-law: James & Sandy McElroy; daughter and son-in-law: Mary & Evan Proffen, Sr.; grandchildren: Jessica & Brandon Fandel, James I. McElroy, Crystal & Mike Szelistowski, Amber & Robert Martinez, Forrest Renshaw, Misty Renshaw & Brad, Jessica & Mike, Evan Jr. & Marissa, Zach & Emily; great grandchildren: Connor, Jacksyn, Cheyenne, Emersyn, Annabelle, Mikala, Joseph, Elinor, Ethan, Adeline, Anthony, Rory, Silas, Meredith, Laina, Jedidiah, Wilhelmina, Aiden, Sutton, Avery & Ryann. She is also survived by her youngest sister and brother-in-law Deborah & John Murphy; sister-in-law Connie Miller; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy McElroy, Ronnie & Pat McElroy, Brenda & Ray Sparks, Martin & Mary McElroy and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many and loved by all! She was predeceased by siblings: Robert Miller, Jeanne Beall, Ronald Miller, Richard Miller & wife Carol; sisters-in-law Joann Reazin, Ruth McElroy. PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 10 AM-12 NOON at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel,6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. The funeral service will be in the same location, following the viewing, at 12 NOON. Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, in Woodbine MD, following the funeral service.
