Mrs Barbara Cichetti

Barbara Jean Cichetti, aged 86, passed away peacefully with family at her side on August 6, 2023, following a battle with cancer. She was born on August 3, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland to Matthew and Helmi Hill. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Daniel Cichetti, and her children Angela Deppe, Stephanie Marsh, Gregory (Sandra) Cichetti and Neil (Joanne) Cichetti, as well as her 11 grandchildren, Corynn (Josef Liska) Marsh, Victor Deppe, Elijah Deppe, Sophia Cichetti, Simone Cichetti, Genevieve Cichetti, Gianna Cichetti, Andrew Cichetti, Elias Cichetti, Katherine Cichetti, and Alexander Cichetti, one great-grandchild, Charlie Marsh, as well as her sisters Dorothy Wolfkill and Susan Hill. Raised in Sparrows Point, she enjoyed swimming and boating with her father as a youth. A 1955 graduate of Sparrows Point High, she attended Towson State, obtained her degree in education, and began her career as a teacher in 1960. A rewarding career that - with an 18 year break to raise her kids - lasted until 2012. She married Daniel on January 12, 1963, later moving to Marriottsville, where she raised her family, volunteered thousands of hours, and impacted the lives of so many. Barbara had a passion for helping others, especially children, and served as a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, outdoor education advocate, band booster and many other roles to provide better learning experiences to the community. The love of teaching was a true calling, which for 26 years saw her gladly make the commute to North Chevy Chase Elementary. There, she developed innovative learning methods for science that inspired literally thousands of her students. She was generous of her time and resources, opening her heart and home to children, neighbors, and countless animals, creating a space of respect and appreciation for the environment and her fellow human beings. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to visit family, helping her kids with their kids, pursuing creative projects at home, and spending time with her special dog kids, Lance and Lola. But more than anything, she dedicated herself into her favorite role, that of Mom Mom. For nearly thirty years, and even to her last day, she dispensed love, hugs, kisses, advice, humor, guidance and wisdom to her beloved grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all the family, friends, colleagues and students whose lives she touched. A celebration of life service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
