Anne P. Jones

Anne Page Jones (nee Bland), 89, passed away on September 2, 2024, after a dynamic fight with heart issues and resultant strokes. Anne was born on November 9, 1934, to Frances Lucille Bland (nee Mullen) and Thomas Nelson Bland in Richmond, Virginia. The family, including brothers Thomas Nelson Bland, Jr. and William Bagby Bland, moved to Baltimore for work in 1945. She was forever a Virginian - she never accepted being in Maryland. Anne married Herbert Lee Jones on July 19, 1952. She was a homemaker raising four children: Donald Lee Jones, Michael 'Scott' Jones, Barbara Anne Szaro (nee Jones), and Thomas Herbert Jones. She pursued her GED and Associates degree at Dundalk Community College and then her Bachelors in Education from Coppin State College. This led to her passion of being a Special Education Teacher at Kennedy Krieger, St. Francis, and Head Start in Dundalk. Family was everything to Anne. She was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She traced her family tree back to the early 1800s. Christmas was always a special time to celebrate with family. She started planning in January. Anne is remembered and loved by her family - Herbert (separated), children (Donny, Scott (spouse Cathy - deceased), Barb (spouse Paul), and Tom (spouse Noel), grand children (Chris Jones, Steve Jones, Elizabeth Addis (deceased), Crystal Hill, Michael Addis, Jake Soreff-Jones, Andy Soreff-Jones, and Bekah Jones), great grandchildren (Mason Jones, Owen Jones, Libbie Hill, Aaden Addis, Maddy Kelly). Anne was predeceased by her parents Frances Lucille Bland (nee Mullen) and Thomas Nelson Bland, her brothers Thomas Nelson Bland, Jr. and William Bagby Bland, sister-in-law Mariko Bland, daughter-in-law Cathy Jones, and granddaughter Elizabeth Addis. Anne enjoyed an eclectic variety of music. She listened to classical, jazz, country, and classic rock. Her favorite musicians were Stravinsky, Nat King Cole, the Rat Pack, the Doo Wop Project, Toby Keith, Queen, and Bruce Springsteen. Theatre (Broadway and local), symphonies, and movies gave her much joy. When she was 15 she would take the neighborhood kids to the Strand Theater for 5 cents and stay there all day. Anne loved airplanes, birds, reading, trees/nature. She was convinced the Blue Angels and Martin State Airport planes were flying specifically for her. The service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road; Sykesville, MD 21784. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and also visitors are invited to join the family for a celebration of life afterward at Freedom Optimist Hall (Upstairs Club Room Hall) 6315 Sykesville Road, (Rt32), Sykesville, MD 21784.
