William S. Ebare

William Samuel Ebare (Bill), age 75, of Marriottsville, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. He was born October 3, 1947, in Syracuse, NY to the late Purley Ebare and Pearl Carter Ebare. Bill received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Oswego and his Masters degree from the American University. He worked for the Maryland State Police for almost 40 years, retiring as a Capital Projects Manager. Bill was a lifelong carpenter. He enjoyed everything from building, to designing, to construction management, to making furniture. His love of helping people and ability to build and fix most things led him to volunteer for years with Habitat for Humanity. He spent countless hours helping friends and family build and fix whatever he could assist with. He loved his family and devoted his time to being a part of their lives. Whether coaching his sons’ soccer teams, attending his grandchildren’s plays and swim meets, or just visiting with them, he was their biggest supporter. He loved his role as Pop-pop and was the biggest fan of his grandchildren. From the day the team came to town, Bill was a huge Ravens fan. He enjoyed oatmeal, apple sauce, Diet Coke, working crossword puzzles and watching "Jeopardy". He was the best father, grandfather, father- in- law, brother, uncle, friend, coworker, advocate, leader, and role model that anyone could ask for. He was a man of principle and integrity. A lifelong believer in feminism, public service and humility, Bill stood for what he believed in. His hero was Jimmy Carter and he was fond of saying (and repeating), “The two best votes of my life were for Jimmy Carter in 1976, and Jimmy Carter in 1980. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Bryan J. and Sally Ebare of Sykesville and Gregory A. Ebare of Seattle, WA; sisters Joyce Bressette and Elaine Ebare-Gardinier and grandchildren Carson and Harper Ebare. Additionally, he is survived by his niece and nephews, Diane, Steve, Doug, Fred and Justin, as well as their spouses and their children. His family meant everything to him. He was predeceased by sister Susan Ebare. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023, and from 9 to 10am on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10am at the funeral home followed by interment in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville, MD.
