Robert Wayne Duvall

Mr. Wayne Duvall, 69, of Woodbine Md passed on peacefully at Johns Hopkins hospital surround by his wife and two sons on Monday, June 19, 2023. Wayne was born in Frederick, Md on October 2, 1953, he was the son of the late Robert "Teets" and Irma Jane Phebus Duvall. Wayne was a 1972 graduate of Glenelg High school. He is a member of the Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church. Wayne retired from the Howard County Bureau of Highways after 48 years of service where he was a Utility worker, and his last position was Regulations Support Technician. Wayne took great pride in his job and enjoyed helping and working with the residents of Howard County. While employed, Wayne made many true friends throughout his many years there. Wayne enjoyed spending time in his yard either mowing grass, pulling weeds or planting flowers, but his prize pastime was spending time in his garden. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days. Wayne was a lover of sports. His favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles and the Ravens. He also enjoying watching the Maryland Basketball games. Nascar was another all-time favorite. He was a very patriotic man and was very grateful to those that served his country. He flew the American flag faithfully. Wayne enjoyed taking his family on vacation to Ocean City. He enjoyed sitting on the boardwalk and was a people watcher. At the end of each trip to Ocean City he and his wife Phyllis would sit on a rock by the inlet and enjoyed watching the fishing boats go in and out. This rock eventually became a tradition for them, and it became "their" rock. Wayne found joy in spending time there with his family. Wayne is survived by his wife of 43 years Phyllis A. Spahr Duvall. They met in 1972 and were sweethearts from that day. They have two sons Jeffrey Alan and Brittany Richards Duvall and son David Wayne and Traci Sigman Duvall. Wayne's pride and joy is his grandson David Wayne Duvall, Jr better known as DJ. Wayne enjoyed his time with DJ by driving him to and from school, taking him to Alex's, Jimmie Cone, McDonalds but their favorite place was Roy Rodgers. Wayne's top priority was keeping DJ happy and having fun with him and sharing many stories to help DJ grow into the young man that made him so proud. Wayne was always there for his family by making sure they had everything they wanted or needed. He loved making the family laugh with his crazy jokes and stories or just keeping them happy. Wayne loved spending time with our Yorkies Bella Tia and Teddy Bear. He loves watching Bella and taking her for walks. He enjoys playing with her and giving her to many treats. Wayne also missed our two Siamese cats Stinky and Shadow. Wayne was an only child, but he grew up in a family with many cousins who he cherished and loved being around them. He was also a great friend and Uncle to all of Phyllis's nieces and nephews. Wayne had many friends wherever he went, and he enjoyed spending time with each one of them. Wayne will be deeply missed by all of them. Wayne loved county music with his favorite singers Hank Williams Jr and Don Williams, but his favorite was Bluegrass. He loved going to the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival every year with Phyllis. He enjoyed many great artists, but he especially loved the Sunday morning Gospel Bluegrass music on Sirius XM radio. Wayne also enjoys going the local carnivals every year and listening to the local bands. He enjoys listening to his cousin Doug Phebus sing at local events and family events. His love of music was something he cherished everyday while relaxing in his favorite recliner. Wayne was also a great TV watcher. His all-time greats were John Wayne and of course Robert Duvall westerns. He was an avid fan of MASH, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Andy Griffin, Survivor and Jeopardy. Wayne will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He had a smile that would light up any room and he loved going to the grocery store where he would run into someone and stand and talk for hours if he could. His memory will live on through all the people he has touched in his 69 years and the love he shared with his family. He had a great sense of humor, a love for everyone he met and a heart of gold. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Wayne's life at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm on Thursday, June 22, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the funeral home followed by interment in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
