Mrs. Lois Genett Helton

Lois Genett Helton of Mount Airy, Maryland, age 92, went home to her Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living in Hagerstown. Born May 31, 1931 in Rosehill, VA, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Millie Martin. She was the wife of the late William Jack Mitchell (6/24/1954 - 9/21/2001) and the late J.P. Helton (12/4/2002 - 2/18/2019). Lois was a graduate of Sherwood High School in Montgomery County and completed nurses training following high school. She was employed at Springfield Hospital in the Jones building. She relocated to Hawaii during her husband's military deployment. Once she returned to Maryland, she worked in the administration department at Vitro Labs in Wheaton. She ended her working career as a Bus Assistant and enjoyed helping with the transportation of children with special needs to attend school. Lois was a long-time member of Liberty Baptist Church and volunteered her talents in the children's ministry as a Sunday School Teacher and led Vacation Bible School. She was loved by all and her happiness and joy flowed through everyone she met. She was known and will always be remembered for her wonderful hugs. Her survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah C. and Robert Foster and Patricia A. and John Kisner; brother, James Kenneth Martin of FL; grandchildren, Joshua E. Mitchell, Jessica R. Getridge, Heather M. Anderson, Whitney R. Foster and Danielle N. Kisner; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lucille Wilder and Luvirda Mitchell; and brothers, Paul and Roy Martin. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11 AM at Liberty Baptist Church, 1200 Madison Street, Lisbon, MD 21765. Interment to follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for a fellowship luncheon at the church immediately following the cemetery committal service.
