Mr Kenneth David Polk Sr.

Kenneth David Polk Sr, 76, was born on November 20, 1946 to the late Leonard Marvel Polk Sr. and Evelyn Jane Polk. Kenneth departed this earth late on March 21, 2023 in Med Star Montgomery County Hospital. Kenneth was born and grew up in Wicomico, county, Allen, Maryland. Kenneth was educated in the Wicomico county school system. He graduated from Salisbury High in1964. Kenneth was employed at Pine Bluff Center and Holi Center in Salisbury, Maryland. He attended the School of Practical Nursing Eastern Shore Hospital Center in Cambridge, Maryland. 1975 Kenneth received his Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate. In (1976) Kenneth was employed at Springfield Hospital Center Sykesville, Maryland and also worked part-time at Carroll County Hospital in Westminister, Maryland. He was very much interested in his co-workers becoming knowledgeable of their rights so he decided to put in his candidacy for President of the Maryland Classified Employee Association (MCES) Springfield chapter. As president he was a great asset and made sure the laws were implemented, enforced and fought for back pay along with time loss for those employees who had been wrongly treated. Service to his country: Kenneth served in the Navy from 12/29/64 – 2/28/68. He served along with the late United States Senator John McCain and four-star admiral and U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Ronald J. Zlatoper, on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. On July 29,1967 a fire broke out on board the aircraft carrier. At the time Forrestal was engaged in combat operations in the Gulf of Tonkin, during the Vietnam War. It was the worst carrier fire since World War II. For nine months Kenneth was declared missing in action and his family was unaware if he was alive. A man of faith: Kenneth was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Allen, Maryland. When he moved to the western shore he found a church home in TheFull Gospel Baptist Church in Cooksvlle, Maryland. He became active once he joined and was ordained in the Deacon Ministry. He was appointed and accepted as chair of Deacon Ministry, Sunday school teacher, Bible study participant and member of the Unfold Your Hands Ministry. Kenneth also attended and enrolled in several National Baptist Congress certified classes. Kenneth was appointed Deacon Chair Emeritus and was so honored to lead Testimonies/Worship Service. Served as member within the Community: Member of the Thomas Elzey. Polk, Sr. Chapter of the Buffalo Soldier of the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association, Salisbury, Maryland VFW, Salisbury, Maryland. American Legion, Salisbury, Maryland Kenneth is survived by his wife of 40 years, Julia Rosetta Jackson Polk, his three children Kenneth David Polk Jr. (Baltimore city, Maryland) Kecia Richele Polk (Columbia Maryland), and Cullis Dion Jackson, (Kim), ( Clear Springs, Maryland). Three sisters, Diane Polk, (Cooksville, Maryland ) Teresa Polk (Fruitland, Maryland) and Eileen Polk (Salisbury, Maryland), one granddaughter, Taylor Crystal Brook Jackson (Andrew), one great grandson, Ryder Andrew Pottorff, one Aunt, Leoner Pye, (Randallstown, Maryland), two sister- in- laws Darlene Polk ,(Salisbury, Maryland) and Hope Jackson,(Cooksville, Maryland) too many nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to list whom he loved so dearly. The family would like to especially acknowledge his closest friend Roosevelt Palmer (Betty), his cousin Veronia Wade who called daily and dear friend Glenn Long. Kenneth was preceded by the death of his first wife Gwendolyn Wooten, one sister Shirley Kent, two brothers Bernard Polk Sr. and Leonard Polk and one brother in-law James Price. In his past time: Kenneth enjoyed church, cooking, music especially Earth, Wind and Fire and Dionne Warwick, Baltimore Ravens, Westerns, repeated viewing of old movies, lover of automobile., He loved to dance especially to Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” and Tiger Obama Woods Polk their cat.
