Mr. Joshua Leonard Dill Sr.

Joshua L. Dill, Sr., 85, of Hagerstown, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 30, 2022. Josh began his working life on a farm working with his dad at a very young age. Then as a milk man until he started his own business, Dill’s Lawn Service. He ran Dill’s Lawn Service independently for over 60 years, working until he was 85. Josh was the definition of community. He was active in the Lion’s Club for over 50 years. As a member of the Lion’s Club, he spent many hours cooking in the Howard County Lions Club snack bar for numerous events each year. He also organized and delivered hospital beds, wheel chairs, and other medical equipment for those in need. In addition to the Lion’s Club, Josh was an active member of the Howard County Tractor Club and involved in maintaining the Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum. Josh never hesitated to help anyone. He had a unique ability to recognize those in need and would aways help without being asked. With unassuming generosity, he took care of those he loved both in his immediate family and in his community. It was a rare week that Josh was not mowing an extra lawn for a neighbor who was ill or just needed a helping hand. He was quick with a joke and was eager to put a smile on your face. Josh is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Charlotte E. Dill. His children, Karollynn and husband Ron Cavey of Hagerstown; Leonard and wife Tina Dill of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Joshua L. Dill, Jr. (Jay) and girlfriend Bobbi Jo Schneller of Burtonsville; Micheal and wife Jennifer Dill of Topsham, Maine. Six grandchildren, Nicholas Cavey, Matthew Cavey, Elizabeth Afanasyev, Sarah Dill, Aaron Dill, Christie Dill and two great grandchildren Annabelle Afanasyev and Aria Cavey. He is also survived by his loving niece, several nephews, as well as other extended family. He is predeceased by his son Robert E. Dill; his brother Robert C. Dill; and his sister Catherine D. VanMeter. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 11am at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
