Mrs. Joan M. Horn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Marie (Smith) Horn on Sunday, the 28th of March, 2021. She was called home by the Lord to join her mother and father. She was the loving and compassionate daughter of the late Theodore Jr. and Cora Varina (Frank) Smith born November 19, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. She later graduated from Milford Mill High School in 1965 with a commercial degree. After graduating from high school, she worked at Montgomery Ward in Baltimore and then the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn. In 1966, she married the love of her life David A Horn, and they lived happily together for 54 years. Joan worked until the birth of her first child. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and stay-at-home mother. They lived a storybook life together, raising their three children; Daniel B. Horn, Shari (Horn) Ash, and Teresa M. Horn. They enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Over the years Joan was blessed with a son-in-law, Brandon Ash, and a daughter-in-law Kristen Horn along with four beautiful granddaughters Sarah Horn, Cassie Horn, Autumn Horn, and Harley Horn. She was also blessed with a loving great-grandson Kaiden Horn. Her source of pride and joy was her family. She also loved reading autobiographies of country stars and celebrities, listening to country music, crossword puzzles, word searches, watching soap operas, and eagles. She is survived by her husband, children, granddaughters great-grandson, sister, Robin Shipley and brother-in-law Jeff Shipley of Frederick, and her Aunt and Godmother, Shirley Tucker, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was the loving Godmother to Michael Shipley, Sarah Horn, Judy Bullock, and Kelly Eller. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021, at 2pm with Rev. Steven Cho officiating. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
