Mr. Donald Leon Barnhart

Donald Leon Barnhart, age 85, of Glenelg, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born April 25, 1933 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Gerald and Grace (Wells) Barnhart. He was the husband of 65 years to Joyce M. (Baker) Barnhart. Donald was an Air Force veteran serving in the military from 1953 to 1957. He was employed by the Federal Government as an electrician at the Smithsonian Institute. After his retirement, he was a school bus driver for special needs in Howard County. He was a very giving and good hearted person and always wanted to help those in need. He was the past Masonic Master of St. Alban Birmingham Lodge No. 233. He did volunteer work for the 4H club in West Friendship where the children called him "Unc". His favorite time of the year was Christmas and he spent many years playing Santa Claus at many organizations. He enjoyed having fun and spending time with his family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Lewis "Rusty" Barnhart of Glenelg and daughter, Donna Glasscock of Eldersburg and her late husband Leslie Glasscock; brother, Gerald Barnhart and sister, Judy Johnson and her husband George of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Lyndsay Phillips and her husband Brian of Eldersburg, Nicole Glasscock of Providence, RI, Matthew Murray and his wife Courtney of Abingdon, Jason Murray and his wife Sandy of Hume, VA; great grandchildren, Logan Phillips, Grayson and Caolan Murray; and life long friends, John and Sharon Murray of Keedysville, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Eva Barnhart; brothers and sisters, Paul Harp, Dolores Shipley, Nancy Spessard, Jean Wagner, Maurice Barnhart, Kate Baker and Richard Barnhart. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 2pm. Interment will be held on Tuesday at 11am at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
