Obituary for Francis Richard "Dick" Maher

Francis Richard “Dick” Maher, 67 of Hanover, PA, and formerly of Sykesville, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born September 23, 1942 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Henry Woodrow Wilson Maher and the late Margaret A. Cunningham Maher. He was the husband of Mary J. “Jean” Cavey Maher of Hanover, PA, his wife of nearly 45 years.
He had been a printer and retired from the U.S. Government Printing office in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fulton J. Sheen Council #7612 and former Marshall of the Maryland District Knights of Columbus.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Karen and Peter Davis of Crownsville, Dennis and Lisa Maher of Sykesville, Michael and Amy Maher of Greencastle, PA and Kelly and Chuck Hammond of Hanover, PA, sister and brother-in-law Marguerite “Honey” and Tom Grau of Bel Air, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and Jim Houseman of Hanover, PA, grandchildren Katherine, Colin, Sabrina, Ryan, Zachary, Kieran, Rachel, Jake, Brennan, Riley and Braden and dear friend Bailey.
Funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday at 11am at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mellor Ave., Sykesville with Rev. Raymond Martin as celebrant. Interment in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville.
The family will receive friends at the Maher residence in Hanover, PA, on Friday from 2pm until midnight.
