Founders

In 1888 James Randolph Weer opened the Weer Funeral Home on Spout Hill Road in Sykesville. His son C. Harry Weer joined the company about the turn of the century.

The business was moved to the main Street residence of Harry and his wife Beulah soon after their marriage in 1910. When James retired in 1932, Luther Haight started work at the funeral home, married Kathryn Haslup in 1933, and graduated from Eckles Embalming School of Philadelphia in 1937.

A Weer-Haight partnership was formed in 1951 and the Funeral Home was moved to its present location on Route 32 Near Eldersburg in 1958. Harry Weer Haight joined his father as an apprentice in 1960, while still in college.

Harry married Susan Doyle in 1963 and in 1966 he became a partner with his father, Luther. He currently serves as president of Haight Funeral Home & Chapel. Harry and Susan's son Brian Luther Haight started his apprenticeship in 1984, was licensed in 1987 and is currently a partner and vice-president of Haight Funeral Home & Chapel. After 113 years, this funeral home founded by a father and son continues in that same tradition.
